Shock cause of Brooke Shields medical emergency revealed after star’s collapse at restaurant

US actor Brooke Shields has recalled a terrifying medical incident in which she was rushed to hospital, suffering from a seizure in September.

The 58-year-old woke in the ambulance to find none other than Bradley Cooper holding her hand.

Shields said that the seizure came on because she was drinking too much water while in New York, preparing for her one-woman show, Previously Owned by Brooke Shields.

The seizure took place at L’Artusi restaurant while she was talking to the sommelier, she told Glamour.

After arriving at the restaurant, “my hands drop to my side and I go headfirst into the wall,” before she was “frothing at the mouth, totally blue, trying to swallow my tongue”.

An ambulance was called and after she was loaded into the back of the van, she had oxygen on and “Bradley f****** Cooper is sitting next to me holding my hand.”

“I thought to myself, ‘This is what death must be like’. You wake up and Bradley Cooper’s going, ‘I’m going to go to the hospital with you, Brooke,’ and he’s holding my hand.

“I’m looking at Bradley Cooper’s hand in my hand, and I’m like, ‘This is odd and surreal.’”

While Shields was convinced she must be dreaming, it was in fact very much reality.

As it turned out, Cooper was dining at a restaurant nearby and after spotting the incident and Shields he raced over to accompany her to the hospital.

The actor’s assistant was unable to get in touch with the Pretty Baby star’s husband Chris Henchy.

Explaining the reasoning for the seizure in more detail she said that she was drinking “so much water” without realising she was low on sodium.

“I flooded my system, and I drowned myself,” Shields explained.

“And if you don’t have enough sodium in your blood or urine or your body, you can have a seizure.”

The actress said that her doctors have given her a treatment plan to recover which includes consuming potato chips “every day”.
