Shutterstock’s Top 5 Creative AI Tools

No design experience? No problem. With Shutterstock’s AI tools, you have the applications you need to tackle any project, right at your fingertips.

Whether you’re working on a social media asset, promoting a sale, or simply choreographing imagery for your next endeavor, these tools empower you to make it happen.

With Shutterstock’s expansive library, accompanied by our advanced AI tools, your creativity is as unlimited as your imagination.

We’ll build an Instagram Carousel for a pet supplies shop—yes, with all the cuteness that implies—as our example.

Follow along with the tutorials (below), and see just how easy these assets are to work with.

Okay, let’s do this!

1. Expand Image Tool

Need your image to cover more area? The Expand Image tool is your new BFF.

In the example video below, we’ve chosen this inquisitive white cat walking through a field of wildflowers. However, we need to expand that image to cover more area.

Here’s how it works:

Simply click the Expand Image button, and Shutterstock’s creative AI tool will expand that image for you.

You’ll be given four options to choose from at the bottom so you can apply the right one to your project.

Is it really that easy? Yes. Yes, it is.

2. Magic Brush Tool

This is a fun one. In our example video, we chose this adorable pig eating a snack on a fall-themed background. It’s the perfect picture for our project with one exception: the snack has got to go!

Here’s where the magic comes in:

Simply click on the Magic Brush button, use your cursor to paint over the object you’d like removed, and voilà! Your perfect image is complete.

3. Variations Tool

Want to see the power of AI right at your fingertips? The Variations tool does just that.

Shutterstock’s creative AI tool allows you to create unique angles and backgrounds for your selected image.

This beautiful bunny is almost a perfect fit, but we want to show him at a different angle. That’s where the Variations tool comes in.

Not only does it alter the angle of the bunny, it slightly alters the background, as well. Same bunny, same theme, different perspectives.

To do this with your image, simply click the Variations button and our AI tool provides you with varying angles and backgrounds. Select the perfect one for your project, and you’re good to go.

4. Background Remover Tool

An absolute lifesaver, the Background Remover tool doesn’t just save you time, it saves you money. No fancy designer needed.

We love this image of two canine buddies, but the background is a bit drab. Background Remover to the rescue!

Simply click on Background Remover, then use your cursor to outline the area of the image you’d like to keep.

We outlined the dogs, then used the search box at the bottom to type in exactly what we wanted to replace the original background with—a kitchen, beach, field of wildflowers, etc.

And boom! Shutterstock’s AI provides you with options to choose from.

So easy. So fun.

5. Design Tools

Now, it’s time to wrap it up and post our project to Instagram. You have several options in the customization department including an array of templates, fonts, layers, and colors to choose from, as well as the ability to crop.

So, now that we’ve selected the perfect background for these cute and cozy canines, it’s time to get this carousel on social.

Here’s how we do that:

In the Design Tool, select one of the FREE Instagram templates from our Shutterstock library by clicking on the Templates button.

We’re now given the option to add text. Click on the Font button, then choose the area you’d like to add text to. We’re promoting our sale on pet supplies, so we made that the prominent feature for our post.

Of course, you’ll be creating your own narrative. So, add a heading, display an upcoming sale, provide a caption, or just a detailed explanation for your image. The sky’s the limit.

Ready to brighten things up? That’s easy too.

Simply click on the Colors button and you’ll be given four color swatches to choose from at the bottom. Try each option to see what best fits your image (and brand).

Once you’ve applied all the Design tools to your project, you’ll be given the option to preview you’re completed version so you can see exactly what it’ll look like once it’s live.

Now, download and go!
