Sirui has announced the expansion of two new autofocus lenses for its budget-friendly f/1.2 Sniper series. The addition of the $399 16mm wide-angle and 75mm telephoto lenses for the APS-C system complements existing 23mm, 33mm, and 56mm lenses, offering creatives a much more comprehensive set of tools to capture whatever life throws at them.
Like the previous trio of fast f/1.2 glass, the 16mm and 75mm lenses (24mm and 113mm equivalent focal lengths, respectively) join the company’s roster of autofocus lenses available for the Sony E, Fujifilm X, and Nikon Z mirrorless systems. Both lenses have extra-low dispersion (ED) and high refractive index glass with an HD Nano coating to improve the optical performance and reduce flare, distortion, ghosting, and other aberrations.
The company says the 16mm (wide-angle) lens features two additional aspherical lenses to reduce the body’s overall size further, helping ensure all five of the Sniper lenses have a similar look and design. The 16mm lens was made to help creatives capture landscapes and starry skies and work in tight spaces such as car interiors and small rooms. It has a wide field of view with a minimum focus distance of about 11.8 inches (0.3 meters).
In comparison, the 75mm telephoto lens is tailored for close-up detail work and portraiture with a minimum focus distance of 27.5 inches (0.7 meters).
Each of the new lenses has an STM motor design to ensure fast, accurate, and quiet autofocus for both photo and video capture, and the company says there is minimal focus breathing. Like the rest of the set, the new lenses are available in three colors (ceramic white, black carbon fiber, and shiny silver), weigh around 0.8 to 0.9 pounds (381-427 grams), and measure around 3.65 inches (approximately 92 millimeters). The lenses also feature 11 aperture blades and offer an aperture range of f/16 to f/1.2 with a 58mm filter thread.
The company says the lenses are similar in size and weight to provide a consistent overall look across all of the Sniper series and allow for simple swaps on gimbal setups so users don’t have to recalibrate or rebalance after each lens change.
Pricing and Availability
The new $399 16mm and 75mm lenses are available now through Indiegogo with “early bird” pricing of $319 (about 20% off) each. At the time of publishing, it is unclear if the two new lenses will be available as a bundle like the original trio (or as a complete five-piece set).
