Skiwear is key focus for brands as H&M Move and IKKs launch new lines

Skiwear is becoming increasingly important to fashion brands with this season seeing a raft of skiwear launches across multiple price points. Among the latest are H&M and IKKS. 

H&M Move

H&M’s Move activewear sub-brand has added a new Snow Collection as “a multifunctional performance range designed to help more people find a route to the snow in 2023 and beyond”.

With its “cost-effective price point, the collection makes mountain protection more accessible without compromising on function,” we’re told. “The result is a fully integrated range of technical apparel offering both performance and style”.

Mfon Boman, H&M Move’s Outdoor Product Manager, said that the “level of detailing and high-quality materials [in] this collection is taking our snow sports segment to the next level”.

The collection was designed in collaboration with outdoor agency Grand Studio, “following rigorous testing of H&M Move’s trademarked fabric innovations for performance”.

Innovations include the windproof, waterproof, and breathable StormMove, the heat retaining ThermoMove, and the quick-drying and moisture-wicking DryMove.

The collection will be split across men’s and women’s lines, “offering a complete layering system” with key pieces including oversized jackets, baggy snow pants, fitted ski trousers, non-quilted puffer jackets, and modern one-pieces.

IKKS Paris x Duvillard

Meanwhile, French fashion and lifestyle brand IKKS Paris has collaborated with French skiwear brand Duvillard to create a nine-piece capsule collection for both men and women. 

The collection combines the “rock-inspired aesthetic of IKKS Paris with the alpine style of Duvillard”. 

For women there’s a black down ski jacket with faux fur collar and “rock” message (£485) with matching black ski pants made from Schoeller fabric (£335); a sleeveless down jacket in shiny ecru (£240); and two sweaters in Merino wool.

The four menswear pieces include a two-tone black down jacket (£585) with a hood and a quilted inner jacket (£240), ski pants in black with detachable suspenders (£315), and a trucker-style navy sweater in Merino wool.

The collection launches on 27 November via the two retailers.

It comes just a week after Adidas by Stella McCartney and outdoor sports specialist Terrex announced the introduction of what they’re calling “a new era of high-performance sportswear to redefine luxury fashion on the slopes”. And to emphasise the importance of the range, a high-profile campaign has been shot fronted by Iris Law.

Last month, Balenciaga also announced its launch into technical skiwear with a line that debuts next week.
