Soccer: Sassuolo relegated, Roma make sure of 6th place – Sports

Sassuolo were condemned to relegation
with Sunday’s 2-0 home defeat to Cagliari, meaning they will
return to the second tier next season after 11 years in Serie A,
while AS Roma made sure they will finish sixth with a 1-0 win
over Genoa.

Sixth place may be good for a spot in next season’s Champions
League if Atalanta win the Europa League and do not finish in
the top four.

Romelu Lukaku scored the winning goal for Roma in the closing
stages after they had midfielder Leandro Paredes sent off for a
second yellow card.

Atalanta are currently fifth, one point behind third-placed
Bologna and fourth-placed Juventus, who face each other later on
Monday.

Inter were held 1-1 by seventh-placed Lazio as they celebrated
winning the 20th Serie A title of their history at San Siro in
their last home game of the season.

Bottom side Salernitana have also already been relegated to
Serie B.
