Social Media Star Apoorva Mukhija Claims Actors Resent Influencers Entering Industry

Content creator The Rebel Kid aka Apoorva Mukhija is a Gen Z content creator. The highly regarded content creator with around 1.2 million followers on Instagram is famous for her unique and amusing content, characterised by her straightforwardness and humour. She initially gathered fame from her comedy videos that were both funny and relatable, but over the years, her content has evolved. Apoorva also creates content in the genres of fashion, beauty, travel, and lifestyle. Apoorva has also been featured on the Forbes Top 100 Creators list.

In an exclusive interview with India.com for our series InstaFamous, Apoorva Mukhija shares her journey on how she deals with social media trolling and how to stay relevant with changing algorithms and a little sneak into her personal life.

How Apoorva Mukhija Started Content Creation

Apoorva started her content creation in the year 2020, during the pandemic. Before that she also made four videos for YouTube, however, she couldn’t stay consistent on YouTube at that time and hence, she switched to creating short-form content on Instagram.

Apoorva has completed her B.tech from Manipal University, Jaipur. The software engineer reveals that she had no specific passion growing up however, she was always the funny kid and the friend who made everyone laugh in the group and that soon manifested into being her full-time profession. Apoorva reveals that Instagram became her friend during COVID-19.

“During the covid, I didn’t really have a lot of friends in life because I was in a co-dependent relationship, I didn’t have anyone to speak to so I started speaking to the camera”, she told us. Apoorva’s content started picking up right from the beginning and she started getting good views which further motivated her to keep creating content. At that time, TikTok got banned in India but, that didn’t stop her. She started making reels on Instagram. She identified the gap and took the opportunity.

Apoorva Mukhija on competition and saturation in content creation

Talking about competition and saturation in content creation, The Rebel Kid shares that she believes that now every person is a content creator with everyone trying to share and give a sneak peek about their life. She shares that there has been a sudden boom in this field in the past 2-4 years. “Yes the competition is slightly tougher than what it was, aap jitna jaldi shuru karo utna better hai, but it is not a completely lost battle” (The earlier you start the better it is), she told india.com. However, Apoorva believes that for budding content creators, the number of audience has also increased so one can find their audience if they stay consistent.

Apoorva Mukhija’s Acting Debut



Apoorva has also made a mark as an actor and she was recently seen in the series “Who’s Your Gynac”, Apoorva says she was somewhere always inclined to drama. “Natuanki toh I really loved bachapan se hi, mai toh jayada tez roone ki acting bhi karti thi mummy papa ki attention ke liye, (I have always been fond of drama, I even use to cry at the top of my voice to get my parents attention), she said. Apoorva shares that she was also in acting group in college and she had also done a lot of theatre in college and inter-college but she also believes that theatre acting is very different from what one does in a movie,” she continued.

Apoorva shares that acting requires a lot of hard work, discipline, and persistence, and it’s a lot more than just looking glamorous. Talking about the ongoing debate of actors vs creators or influencers V/s Bollywood, Apoorva shares that usually the actors are not very happy with influencers stepping in the line of acting as they feel threatened. “When it comes to fellow actors, they tend not to like influencers at all because they are like yeh humari naukari kha rahe hai”, she said. Apoorva revealed that she wasn’t treated any better because she was already an established influencer. “I wasn’t treated better, I might have been looked down upon but not better, however, my producers and director have always been amazing” she said.

Apoorva Mukhija On Social Media Trolling

Apoorva Mukhija shared that she has dealt with social media trolling to the extent that it has changed her perception of herself. She says that initially a YouTuber called “Dank Rishu” trolled her and that created a ripple effect and other people in his roasting community also picked up on her. She told us that there were many personal remarks made about her mother and brother. “At that time my love life was also not doing that great, didn’t had a lot of friends also, the only good thing was my Instagram and it really got to me. I stopped creating content for 8 months, I just vanished”, Apoorva concluded.

Apoorva believed that staying consistent and staying true to yourself can help a creator to build their community. She also advised fellow creators to not make Instagram their reality by driving their self-worth from it.
