South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas reveals Adelaide connection of Bondi Junction stabbing victim Ashlee Good: ‘Beautiful family’

The SA premier has shared his condolences with the South Australian family of Ashlee Good, who was killed while protecting her baby from a knife-wielding killer during the stabbing attack in Sydney’s eastern suburbs at the weekend.

Six people died and 12 were seriously injured when Queenslander Joel Cauchi went on a killing spree at Westfield Bondi Junction on Saturday afternoon.

New mother and osteopath Good, 38, died at St Vincent’s Hospital hours after making desperate attempts to protect her nine-month-old daughter, who was also stabbed.

Good was married to Adelaide-born Daniel Flanagan, whose father Paul Flanagan was a political adviser for the SA Labor Party.

South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas said he knew the Flanagan family very well and had attended Mercedes College with Daniel.

“Having had the privilege of knowing the Flanagan family a bit, I can simply tell every South Australian they are a beautiful family.

“(They are) really value-driven people who care about others, very warm and generous to everyone.

“It is incomprehensible that such a beautiful family has been so aggressively affected.

“From the whole community in South Australia, I’d like to pass on our sympathies to those that have lost their lives yesterday in Bondi Junction.”

Cauchi was shot dead by a police officer after refusing to drop the knife and lunging at her.

Westfield Bondi Junction and surrounding streets remained closed on Monday.

Good’s family released a statement, saying they were “struggling to come to terms with what has happened”.

“Today we are reeling from the terrible loss of Ashlee, a beautiful mother, daughter sister, partner, friend, all-round outstanding human and so much more,” the family said.

“We appreciated the well-wishes and thoughts of members of the Australian public who have expressed an outpouring of love for Ashlee and our baby girl.”

Good is the daughter of former Kangaroos player and board member Kerry, a Tasmanian Football Hall of Famer, and his first wife Denise.

Kerry accepted the Kangaroos’ offer for their players to honour Good with black armbands for their game against Geelong on Sunday.

The others that have since been identified are 25-year-old daughter of multi-millionaire businessman John Singleton Dawn Singleton, security guard Faraz Tahir, mother-of-two Jade Young, 55-year-old Pikria Darchia, and Chinese student Yixuan Cheng, aged in her early 20s.
