Stefon Diggs makes bold C.J. Stroud statement ahead of Texans debut

Houston Texans star wide receiver Stefon Diggs raised some eyebrows when he revealed in a recent interview that he “was in the worst mental space I’ve been in since I entered the league” during his final season with the Buffalo Bills.

Diggs indicated while speaking about Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud on Thursday that he’s in a much better place ahead of Houston’s Week 1 game at the Indianapolis Colts this coming Sunday.

“It’s been a nice road,” Diggs said about joining the Texans via an offseason trade, as ESPN’s DJ Bien-Aime shared. “I look at [Stroud] as family, not just my quarterback. I’m rocking with him through thick and thin. I always tell him I am with you when you’re right, I’m with you when you’re wrong.”

Diggs’ relationship with Bills star signal-caller Josh Allen first came into question after the 30-year-old seemed to confront Allen during a playoff loss in January 2023. While the two figured things out enough for the 2023 Bills to go 11-6 before they beat the Pittsburgh Steelers in a wild-card postseason matchup, Diggs then committed a costly fourth-quarter drop in the divisional-round defeat against the Kansas City Chiefs this past January.

That moment proved to be the beginning of the end of Diggs’ tenure with Buffalo.

“I think me and him already had a natural connection on the field and we just built it and built it and built it,” Stroud said about his working relationship with Diggs. “I think you have seen it on the field, just rep, after rep after rep. Just me and him having a conversation, just me and him talking about things we like, things we don’t like and just being transparent. It is going to continue to grow, and it is going to be a special connection.”

Adding Diggs to a roster capable of earning at least one postseason win is why DraftKings Sportsbook listed the Texans fifth among the betting favorites at +850 odds to represent the AFC in Super Bowl LIX as of Friday morning. At that same time, DraftKings Sportsbook had Houston as a three-point favorite over Indianapolis.

Diggs and Stroud are ready to put on a show at Lucas Oil Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
