Mourning the loss of Ratan Tata, renowned Rajya Sabha MP Sudha Murty described him as a man of “unparalleled integrity and simplicity.” Murthy emphasized Tata’s deep compassion and unwavering concern for the welfare of others, highlighting the values that defined his remarkable character and leadership.
In a conversation with news agency ANI Murthy said, ” I met him (Ratan Tata), a man of integrity, and simplicity, always caring for others and compassionate… I really miss him… I don’t think in my experience I met anyone like him.”

Sudha Murthy requested two gifts from Ratan Tata, he gave them to her, these gifts are…., they are now….
Speaking of his generous nature, Sudha Murty revealed that she had requested two priceless gifts from Ratan Tata, both of which he graciously provided. These gifts are now displayed in her personal office, serving as cherished mementos of their friendship and Tata’s generosity.
Sudha Murty fondly recalled an incident wherein in the early ‘90s, she had requested two pictures of Jamshedji Tatal the founder of the Tata Group, and JRD Tata, the former chairman of the Tata Group). Ratan Tata, the beloved industrialist, promptly fulfilled her request, providing the pictures at a moment’s notice. Murty revealed that she still keeps these treasured photographs in her office, serving as a lasting reminder of her admiration for the Tata legacy and the bond she shared with Ratan Tata.
For those who may not know, Sudha Murty began her career at Tata Engineering & Locomotive Company (TELCO), now known as Tata Motors, which is the largest auto manufacturer in India. Starting as a Development Engineer in Pune, she went on to hold positions in both Mumbai and Jamshedpur.
Murty’s journey took a significant turn when she wrote a postcard to the Chairman of TELCO, expressing her concerns about the prevalent gender bias in the company, which was predominantly male at the time. Her bold action led to a special interview, resulting in her being hired on the spot. This pioneering move not only marked the beginning of her career but also paved the way for greater representation of women in the engineering field at Tata.
