Supreme Court Issues Notice to NTA Over Alleged Irregularities in NEET-UG Marks Calculations

Education Ministry has set up a seven-member panel headed by former ISRO chief K Radhakrishnan to review the NTA’s functioning and recommend exam reforms.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday issued a notice to the National Testing Agency (NTA) in response to a petition filed by a learning app, which alleges exam rigging in the recently conducted NEET UG entrance examination. The apex court has directed the testing agency to respond by July 8, when the hearing on the matter will take place.

NEET-UG was conducted by the NTA on May 5 with around 24 lakh candidates appearing in it for admission to MBBS courses. The results were announced on June 4, but they were followed by allegations of question paper leaks in states such as Bihar, besides other irregularities. For the past week, the students are demanding the scrapping of the NTA and the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan against the alleged irregularities in the medical qualifying examination. Meanwhile, amid the furore the Education Ministry has shunted out National Testing Agency Director General Subodh Singh and handed over the probe into alleged irregularities in the medical entrance exam to the CBI.

It has also set up a seven-member panel headed by former ISRO chief K Radhakrishnan to review the NTA’s functioning and recommend exam reforms.

“Govt committed to fair investigation of recent paper leaks, guilty will be punished”: President Droupadi Murmu

Referring to the irregularities in the NEET-UG examination, President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday said that the government is committed to a fair investigation of the recent incidents of paper leaks as well as stringent punishment for the guilty. While addressing the joint sitting of both Houses, the President said, “It is a continuous effort of the government to ensure that the youth of the country gets adequate opportunity to display their talent. My government is committed to a fair investigation of the recent incidents of paper leaks as well as stringent punishment for the guilty. Even before this, we have seen paper leaks in different states. Rising above partisan politics, a nationwide concrete solution is needed for this. Parliament has formed a strict law against irregularities in examinations.”

This is a breaking story. Further details are awaited.
