Suspect charged in Berkeley homicide, but claimed the victim threatened him days earlier

OAKLAND — A man has been arrested and charged with killing a person that police say he has known for most of his life, over a dispute that reportedly lasted several days.

The suspect has been identified by the name Darnell Amhil Anding, 42, but authorities say it’s far from the only name he is known by. His many aliases include nicknames like “Dope” and “Cell,” as well as Marcell Bible, and Saalah Odin, according to court records.

Anding was charged with murdering Corey “BC” Waters, a 52-year-old man who was fatally shot on Aug. 16, inside a shared living residence on the 3200 block of Adeline Street. Police say they were told that Anding and Waters were lifelong friends and had sold drugs together in the past, but that for several days leading up to the homicide the two had been feuding.
