Tamil Nadu CM Stalin slams Centre over zero NEET PG cut-off decision, says test has nothing to do with merit

NEW DELHI: DMK President and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Thursday slammed the Centre over its decision to reduce the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET-PG) cut-off percentile to zero. He said that BJP-led Central government has accepted that the NEET PG exam‘s benefit is zero and it has nothing to do with merit.
Criticising the decision, CM Stalin took to X (formerly Twitter) and wrote, “The Union BJP Government has accepted that the benefit of NEET is ZERO! By reducing the NEET PG cut-off to ‘zero’, they are accepting that ‘eligibility’ in National ‘Eligibility’ Cum Entrance Test is meaningless. It’s just about coaching centres and paying for the exam. No more qualification is required.”
“NEET = 0. NEET has nothing to do with merit, which we have been saying all along. It has become a mere formality, devoid of any real eligibility criteria,” CM Stalin added in his caption on X.
Talking about the loss of life due to the medical examination, DMK president said further in his post, “The Union BJP Govt remained heartless despite so many precious lives were lost and has now come up with an order like this. The BJP Govt must be removed just for causing loss of lives with the guillotine called #NEET.”

On Wednesday, his son and state Youth Welfare Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin also slammed the Union government over the same issue, he said the Central government has “accepted” that the benefit of NEET is zero.
The Union Health Ministry has taken the decision after doctors across the country had been urging a reduction in the NEET PG 2023 cut-off percentile.
The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) is set to launch a NEET abolition campaign next week aimed at further intesifying the anti-NEET movement in Tamil Nadu. The DMK firmly stands against NEET, arguing that it is detrimental to social justice, and asserts that it primarily favours urban students and those with access to coaching institutes.
