The incident was recorded on a CCTV camera nearby and has since gone viral on the internet. In the video, one can see a white Punch compact SUV, taking an elevated road. The driver then turns towards the right and instead of continuing on the left lane, paces across the road and falls straight into the pavement. In what appears as a loss of control over the car (presumably due to inexperience), the car lands straight onto the right side of its front.

The incident appears to have caused minimal impact due to its low speed during the freefall. Reportedly, no one inside or outside the vehicle sustained any severe injuries as the driver was said to have been wearing a seatbelt. We’re not sure if the Punch involved in this incident was an AMT variant or the MT one. In any case, it is highly likely that the driver, while familiarizing the vehicle, got confused between the brake and the accelerator.
The incident is a reminder of the importance of taking safety precautions when driving a new vehicle. Drivers should always be aware of their surroundings and take steps to avoid accidents.
Talking about the vehicle involved in the incident, the Punch is one of the safest cars available in India, having bagged 5-star rating in the Global NCAP ratings, in which it received 5 stars for adult occupant protection and 4 stars for child occupant protection. It is highly likely that the manufacturer will nominate the car for assessment in the Bharat NCAP as well.
