Teen wounded in drive-by shooting, two suspects arrested

OAKLAND — A 13-year-old boy was wounded in a drive-by shooting in East Oakland Thursday night and two suspects were later arrested, authorities said.

Five other youths who were with the boy wounded escaped injury, police said.

The shooting happened about 6:53 p.m. Thursday in the 9500 block of Walnut Street, a primarily residential area in East Oakland.

Police said the 13-year-old boy was standing outside with the other youths, ranging in age from 12 to 17, when an SUV drove down the street and two occupants inside began shooting at them, continuing to fire as the intended victims ran away.

The 13-year-old was shot in the arm. He was in stable condition at a hospital Friday.
