The weight of the huge whale hit the water, then dragged Breen underwater.
His Go Pro camera was running during the entire ordeal, revealing shocking images of the impact.
Breen told 7NEWS he was trapped underwater for what “felt like a lifetime”.
“I saw the head come out, then I saw the rest of the body come out, and then I saw the whole thing above me and about that stage I’ve got to be honest, I thought I was in trouble,” he said.
“I could feel the mass of the whale like right against my body and the only time I was released was about 20 foot down when the (board’s) leash broke … as soon as the leash broke then I felt my body wanting to go up to the surface.
“Then I was OK.”
Miraculously, he escaped injury during the terrifyinig incident.
