Tesla’s Cybertruck Is Driving Into Fortnite and Rocket League This Week

Fortnite and Rocket League players soon will get the chance to (virtually) drive a Tesla Cybertruck. Epic Games, the publisher of both games, announced in separate social media posts that the games will be rolling out Tesla’s controversial truck starting July 23.

The Fortnite post included a short video showing a Cybertruck pulling against another truck via a metal chain, which we’re pretty sure might void the Tesla warranty on the vehicle. Although Epic Games did not specifically mention it in either post, it’s likely the truck will be available as purchasable, optional content. Some cars in Fortnite have previously cost as much as 4,000 V-bucks, or about $32.

Epic Games did not immediately respond to a request for further comment.

Not everybody who saw the announcement was thrilled at the addition. The gaming site Kotaku said in a headline, “This Might Be One Of The Worst Things Fortnite’s Ever Done,” while one responder on X suggested, “They should make it so it rusts and loses health as the match progresses.” On the Rocket League post, another user replied, “Not a single person asked for this.”

Since deliveries of the Cybertruck started late last year, the vehicle has been the subject of recalls and some online snark for its unusual looks and issues with its unique metal finish, which has been subject to rusting and spotting.

Currently on Fortnite, players are able to access the Battle Royale update Cursed Sails, which is themed to Pirates of the Caribbean.
