The Edelkrone Tripod X is the World’s First Fully Motorized Video Tripod

Video gear company Edelkrone has introduced the Tripod X, a motorized video tripod that the company says represents “A new era in videography.”

The “world’s first fully motorized tripod” promises performance and speed. The Tripod X can raise and lower “even the heaviest” setup. The Tripod X’s height is controlled using a control pad, and even when deployed on uneven ground, it can automatically level thanks to built-in intelligent sensors that constantly monitor and adapt.

“With Tripod X, you can wave goodbye to the various discomforts traditionally associated with tripod adjustments — from the nagging knee bends to the tedious toe-tip stretches. Experience a new era of ease and speed in camera setup, where your well-being is as prioritized as your shot,” promises Edelkrone.

Beyond effortless adjustments, the motorized tripod design also enables transitions between different poses and dynamic motion time-lapse creation. When the user connects their camera to the trigger port on Tripod X — with a sold-separately shutter trigger cable — it’s possible to achieve smooth and repeatable camera motions.

As for the tripod’s speed, it can adjust its height up to 120 cm per minute, which is 47.2 inches a minute, or about 0.79 inches per second. The tripod is powered by a 12-volt 3Ah GBA type power tool battery — a BOSCH 12V battery and charger are included — and promises an average of 300 adjustments per charge.

The Tripod X is 28 inches (71 centimeters) long when folded. Its working height ranges from 13.4 inches (34 centimeters) to 58 inches (148 centimeters). Unsurprisingly, given that it’s a rugged, motorized video tripod that can support up to 66 pounds (30 kilograms) of gear, the Tripod X isn’t exactly lightweight — it weighs just under 20 pounds (nine kilograms).

While safe for some outdoor use, Edelkrone cautions against using Tripod X in sandy environments, like beaches and deserts, and notes that the tripod is not water-resistant and should not be used in the rain or on wet surfaces.
