The R33 Nissan Skyline GT-R may not be available in left-hand drive, but it’s still a legendary sports car that has American buyers obsessed even decades later. It’s still plenty quick, handles well and can reliably make much more power than the 276 hp it officially came with from the factory. Still, a sports coupe is never going to be the most practical vehicle, so what if you could get a Skyline GT-R wagon?
Essentially, that’s exactly what this 1998 Nissan Stagea 260RS Autech that’s currently for sale on Cars & Bids is — the Skyline GT-R wagon that Nissan never offered. The Stagea shared a platform with the Skyline, so all Autech had to do was give it the GT-R’s engine, transmission and all-wheel-drive system, and there you go. You’ve got a sleeper wagon that really only stands out because of the body kit and rear wing.
Autech didn’t exactly build many of them, though. Only a reported 1,734 were ever produced, and none were sold here. It’s unclear how many have since been imported to the U.S., but it can’t be many. This particular car also reportedly has a title, so you shouldn’t have to do a lot of extra work to get it registered and insured. Despite being located in San Diego, however, it’s actually registered in Montana.
From the photos, it looks like it’s still in fantastic shape for a 25-year-old car. That said, it wasn’t a garage queen. It has a very reasonable 83,500 miles on the odometer. And while it does come with service records, you should know going in that they’re all in Japanese. Still, we’re talking about an incredibly cool, rare station wagon with a GT-R powertrain. Surely that’s worth taking a gamble on for at least one of you.
