Thousands of items starting at $1 still to be auctioned after online sporting giant goes into liquidation

Thousands of new sporting goods and pieces of leisure equipment remain up for grabs at bargain prices after a major online retailer went into liquidation.

The multimillion-dollar fire sale was triggered when T&R International, which traded as T&R Sports and Sports Leisure, collapsed in October.

Auctioneers were tasked with clearing the company’s entire inventory of new and showroom-quality goods including pool tables, electric bikes, electric scooters, portable basketball hoops, swags and furniture.

There was major excitement when it was revealed more than 10,000 items were unreserved and would start from just $1 – and savvy buyers have jumped at the deals.

“We have already auctioned and sold 50 per cent of the stock with the remainder going to auction across this weekend and through to the end of the year,” Lloyds Auctioneers chief operations officer Lee Hames told 7NEWS.com.au.

Hames said some of their wildest deals included offloading a $16,000 luxury pool table for just $3200, a $6000 mobility scooter for $700, and 30 exercise bikes worth a combined $21,000 for just $870.

With their change, one buyer scored an $1800 home gym for $22.

“All of the T&R warehouses are now empty and the remainder of the stock has been moved to Lloyds warehouses across the country and is ready to be sold,” Hames said.

More auctions are set to close on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

All items are pick-up only and collection is the responsibility of the buyer.

The downfall of T&R comes after shoppers were warned by state authorities not to deal with the company.

Hundreds of complaints were logged with NSW Fair Trading and an investigation into potential consumer law breaches was launched.

Queensland’s marketplace regulator also warned buyers to avoid T&R following more than 50 complaints from consumers who say they were “ripped off” and left “in the lurch”.

“Some consumers claim they’ve never received the products they ordered, while others report the goods have been delivered late or damaged,” Fair Trading Commissioner Victoria Thomson said in September.

“We are particularly concerned about claims that consumers are being denied refunds to which they’re entitled under Australian Consumer Law.

“Over 50 Queenslanders report being out of pocket by about $52,600 in total and we have serious concerns T&R International will continue to operate and take money from Queenslanders via its online stores.”
