She may have been a latecomer to flat racing after a pretty lean hurdling career, but BELLA BLUESKY has already earned more in five all-weather starts than in 15 over timber. She pulled clear of the rest when almost completing the hat-trick at Wolverhampton (two earlier wins over this trip) so she can quickly return to winning ways. Easter Island was a close third off this mark over C&D on Thursday, so is the obvious threat along with course regular Bobby Shaftoe, though there doesn’t look too much wriggle room with his mark.

Irish recruit MEDICI PASS is potentially well treated starting out for a new yard so could be the answer. Her third in a 9.5f handicap at Clonmel (3¾ lengths behind Beauparc) in September was achieved from a mark of 58 and, now 4 lb lower, she could make an instant impression over this shorter trip (her half-brother The Camden Colt won over six furlongs). The consistent pair of Marcello Si and Without Delay, who both come into this race in better form, head the dangers.

The useful-looking filly HOPEFUL easily saw off the promising subsequent winner Bystander, by 5½ lengths, when opening her account back from a long absence here 10 weeks ago, and she’s taken to follow up with the prospect of more improvement to come. The 280,000 guineas purchase Gemstar made a very encouraging start here recently and is a big threat. Achernar and Gunlock are newcomers to note making their belated debuts as four-year-olds.

The former John McConnell-trained KRAKEN DIAMOND pulled clear of the remainder when runner-up in a classified contest on his second start for Brian Toomey at Kempton a fortnight ago and has a big shout if in the same sort of form back in a handicap. Odd Socks Havana is one of three C&D winners in the line-up and, though he’s shown a tendency to race awkwardly, might be the biggest danger ahead of top-weight Ana Emaraaty.

Though his yard isn’t yet firing on all cylinders, two-time C&D winner FLASH THE DASH has returned to form of late and remains feasibly treated; he gets the nod in an open-looking contest. Fellow C&D winner The Gay Blade and Mumayaz, for whom Hollie Doyle looks a significant upgraded jockey booking, head the list of dangers.

The well-handicapped DREAM FOR GOLD could be a sprint handicapper to follow this year for Kevin Ryan, and on the back of an encouraging return in a useful race here last month, he makes the most appeal. He is now on a mark of 79 which is 2 lb lower than when a neck-second in a very competitive Newmarket handicap last July. Unexposed improver Metaverse is a big danger, while recent Kempton runner-up Al Farabi can go well again. Any money for French recruit Grand Traverse would look significant on his first start for Archie Watson.

Plenty of the regulars for this sort of contest here, with GOLDEN RAINBOW fancied to strike again after his victory over Another Angel over C&D three weeks ago. He was always doing enough that day and may yet have more to give in this grade – his yard is in fair form, too. Sherdil took the second division of that race and can go well again, while last year’s winner Rockley Point is another to consider despite finishing down the field behind Sherdil last time.
