Toe-curling moment ITV presenter Nina Hossain becomes the latest to fall victim to the ‘Jeremy C***’ curse as she discusses the Chancellor’s Budget plans

An ITV presenter has become the latest to fall victim to the curse of Jeremy Hunt’s name.

Nina Hossain was discussing the Chancellor’s Budget plans with a reporter over a video link today when she inadvertently referred to him as ‘Mr C***’.

The host tried to gloss over the stumble by swiftly moving on, while her colleague did not make any reaction.

But it is far from the first time that broadcasters have managed to blunder when mentioning the senior Conservative – who is thought to be fairly relaxed about the errors.

ITV political editor Robert Home Secretary was speaking about Mr Hunt‘s planned spending cuts on air in October 2022 when he committed the gaffe.

He said: ‘That means the hole in the public finances is bigger than it would have been, and Jeremy C***’s – Hunt’s – cuts will be more painful.’

In June the same year Sky News’ Sophy Ridge was talking about the involvement of MPs in the bid to topple Boris Johnson when she said: ‘Two figures who are significant, Jeremy C*** because he’s a potential leadership candidate.

‘Jesse Norman because he’s worked with Boris Johnson for quite a long time.’

In one of the best-known incidents, BBC Radio 4 presenter Jim Naughtie slipped over the South West Surrey MP’s name on the station’s flagship Today programme in 2010.

The error was compounded later the same day when fellow BBC presenter Andrew Marr made the same mistake when introducing a debate about Naughtie’s stumble on another programme.

Speaking in 2015 about the incident, Naughtie revealed: ‘I was there with lots of bits of paper and someone was shoving headlines in front of me and I said, “After the news we’ll be talking to Jeremy C***”…’

‘And all I could see behind the glass were arms going up in the air, as in “We surrender”.

‘And the guy who was passing the news bulletins to the late Rory Morrison went under the table [laughing].’

When Naughtie announced he was leaving the Today programme after 21 years, Mr Hunt told him: ‘Bravo Jim. You conducted my most memorable interview ever, albeit not because of determined dissection of govt policy…’
