Kevin Costner stars as an escaped prisoner who holds a boy hostage while a fugitive. Aside from directing, Clint Eastwood co-stars as the Texas Ranger pursuing him. Although not a box office success, the film received critical acclaim upon release.

9. Richard Jewell (2019)
One of his adaptations of recent real-life events, this film follows the security guard who discovered a bomb at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. Paul Walter Hauser stars as Richard Jewell, who was wrongly accused of having planted the explosive. Co-star Kathy Bates received a Best Supporting Actress Oscar nomination for her role as Richard’s mother.

8. The Bridges of Madison County (1995)
Based on the best-selling novel of the same name, Eastwood also co-starred opposite Meryl Streep in this romantic drama. Set in 1965, the film follows an Italian war bride who lives on an Iowa farm and has an intense affair with a National Geographic photojournalist. Streep received a Best Actress Oscar nomination for the starring role.

7. Changeling (2008)
Based on a true story, Angelina Jolie stars as a mother in 1920s California who is reunited with her lost son, only to discover the corrupt LAPD have returned a different boy to her. Despite protesting, she’s labelled an unfit mother and sent to a psychiatric ward. Jolie was Oscar-nominated for Best Actress for the highly coveting part.
