MANILA, Philippines — La Salle coach Topex Robinson and University of the Philippines guard Reyland Torres will likely see action in the resumption of the UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball tournament over the weekend after a “stern warning” from the league subcommittee.

Sources privy to the situation bared to Inquirer Sports that the subcommittee of the UAAP Board of Managing Directors, in coordination with the commissioner’s office, has recommended giving Robinson and Torres “a stern warning” after the alleged spitting incident during the La Salle-UP game.

This comes after a meeting that included both parties at Novotel on Thursday.

The league’s board of managing directors will tackle the recommendation of the subcommittee on Saturday afternoon.

A suspension could be unlikely due to “inconclusive” evidence on the alleged spitting by Robinson directed at Torres  in the third quarter of La Salle’s 68-56 win over UP on Sunday at Mall of Asia Arena.

Both UP and La Salle, who are tied at 6-1 on top of the standings, have yet to comment about the controversy that marred their first-round collision.

After the game, Fighting Maroons coach Goldwin Monteverde said that their heated exchange was not about basketball, while La Salle assistant coach Gian Nazario, speaking, on behalf of Robinson, saying it was only part of the game.

The Green Archers battle their streaking first-round tormentor, the University of the East on Saturday at the Big Dome at 6 p.m., while UP opens its second round against the University of Santo Tomas on Sunday at the same venue.
