Travis Kelce steers clear of jokes about Bill Belichick

If there’s one player in the NFL who knows a thing or two about being in the tabloids, it’s Travis Kelce.

The Kansas City Chiefs tight end and Taylor Swift’s boyfriend is getting competition for ink lately, though, from Bill Belichick after the former New England Patriots coach’s romance with a woman nearly 50 years his junior was revealed.

However, when the iconic coach’s name came up during this week’s installment of the Kelce brothers’ New Heights podcast, older sibling Jason stepped in to steer the conversation in a different direction.

“Belichick’s a smooth operator, his girlfriend is …” Travis began before the retired Eagles centre cut in to say, “Let’s not go there, please. Jesus Christ.”

The two started chuckling over the exchange before Travis simply says: “He’s killing it.”

Travis nearly had quite a slip of the tongue, too. Before referring to Belichick’s former cheerleader girlfriend, he nearly said “his daughter” before quickly correcting himself.

Belichick, 72, and 23-year-old Jordon Hudson have been a hot topic over the past few weeks.

According to a report by TMZ, Hudson moved into the coach’s home in Hingham, Mass., at the beginning of the year.

The outlet also reported that since then, the couple has been inseparable while still managing to keep out of the public eye until recently.

Last week, Belichick was seen taking Hudson out for a morning cruise on his boat named VIII Rings — a not-so-subtle nod to the number of Super Bowl championships he has won as a coach and coordinator during his illustrious NFL career.

The couple attended Tom Brady’s Patriots Hall of Fame ceremony earlier this month and were seen together in a video posted on social media. In the clip, Belichick greets several former Patriots players with Hudson in tow. Belichick’s daughter Amanda, 40, also appears in the video.

The Kelces aren’t the only NFLers-turned-podcasters who have discussed Belichick’s love life. Two of the coach’s former charges, ex-Patriots stars Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman, brought up the relationship on Edelman’s Games With Names podcast.

During the episode, which was released on Tuesday, Edelman asks Gronk if he had seen Belichick’s date.

“He’s dating a 24-year-old, good-looking 24-year-old,” Gronkowski replied before bringing up some advice that the coach had imparted on his players.

“He always told us there’s three things out that (you) don’t get caught up in … what was the trifecta, Julian?” the tight end asked.

“Mr. Gronk, would it be alcohol is one?” Edelman replied to which Gronk confirmed while adding that “Coach Belichick did not partake in alcohol, I can tell you that.”

The second part of the ‘trifecta’ was a**holes, to which the pair laughed while Gronk quipped, “I would say that coach Belichick did partake in being an a**hole sometimes.

“But not anymore, I love him, he’s my favourite,” Gronk added.

Edelman finished the list with No. 3 being “girls.”

“Now he’s all caught up with the girls!” Gronk excitedly said.

The two retired players then joked that since Belichick isn’t coaching this season, maybe he gets a “pass” on being in the trifecta.

“Watch out, he’s going to be blacked-out hammered every night now,” Gronk joked.
