A local community is rallying around the family of Brook Wilson after the teenager died suddenly last week.
The 18-year-old experienced a medical event while warming up ahead of a game of touch footy.
Wilson, who played for Woodend, was preparing to take the field at the Woodend Rugby Club in North Canterbury on November 5 when the tragedy unfolded.

The club has organised a raffle and a quiz night with all proceeds going to Wilson’s family.
“It is with deep sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of one of our players, Brook Wilson, who experienced a medical event last night at Woodend touch,” club president Mark Paterson said the day after Wilson’s death.
“Everyone was shocked.
“Our heartfelt condolences go out to Brook’s family and friends during this difficult time.
“We extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who provided assistance and support during this moment.”
Father Tony said his family have been overwhelmed by the support.
“We’re just stunned by the community spirit and the people that are willing to help,” he told Stuff.
“I can’t believe how popular he was.”
Kaiapoi High School acting principal Scott Liddell paid tribute to Wilson.
“Our staff and students fondly remember Brook as someone who lived life to the fullest and a boy who had a great group of very loyal mates who are coming together in these tough times,” he said.
“We pass on our sympathy to Brook’s whānau in these times that took him away from the bright future he had in front of him.”
