Truck driver dies in fiery Hayward freeway crash

HAYWARD — A man was burned to death when the truck he was driving crashed into a tree off Highway 92 and burst into flames on Sunday night, authorities said.

The coroner’s office was in the process of trying to identify the man Monday.

The crash happened about 11:59 p.m. Sunday on westbound Highway 92 just west of the Hesperian Boulevard offramp, the California Highway Patrol said.

CHP Officer Kylie Musselman said Monday the man was driving a tractor-trailer pulling a flatbed trailer that was carrying a forklift.

For still undetermined reasons, the truck veered off the roadway, hit a tree and caught fire, trapping the driver inside the cab, authorities said.
