TTArtisan’s latest release is compact, lightweight, and affordable autofocus-equipped 35mm f/1.8 lens for Sony E, Fujifilm X, and Nikon Z-mount APS-C cameras.
The new lens costs just $149 and promises to be ideal for a wide range of subjects and the autofocus is driven by an STM plus “lead-screw type structure” that TTArtisan says provides quiet and fast autofocus “to help capture remarkable moments.” TTArtisan says that the autofocus motor in the new lens is reliable and fast enough to support eye-detection on Sony, Fujifilm, and Nikon cameras.
“With its rapid and precise autofocus capabilities, The TTArtisan 35mm f/1.8 ensures that every shot is captured in exquisite detail, eliminating the frustration of missed moments and blurred images. At the heart of its design is the versatile 35mm focal length, which effortlessly transitions between wide-angle and standard views, making it a versatile choice for a variety of photographic genres,” the company says. Concerning the focal length, on APS-C mirrorless cameras, the 35mm f/1.8 will be equivalent to a 50mm lens on full-frame cameras.
The lens is constructed of 10 elements arranged into eight groups and includes one extra-low dispersion (ED) glass element to reduce chromatic aberration as well as two high refractive index elements. It features an aperture range of f/1.8 through f/16 via a nine-bladed diaphragm. TTArtisan touts this optic as providing soft bokeh with a pleasant look to the out of focus areas.
It has a close focusing distance of 0.6 meters (about 23.6 inches) and has a front filter size of 52mm. It weighs 199 grams, or about 7.02 ounces. The lens and barrel mount are made of aluminum, but expect mostly plastic parts elsewhere. It does, however, ship with a metal lens hood with a rectangular opening.
“Maximum aperture of f/1.8 enables exceptional low-light performance. Capture stunning images in dimly lit environments without the need for a flash, preserving the natural ambiance of the scene,” TTArtisan says.
TTArtisan has equipped the 35mm f/1.8 lens with a USB-C port to allow for firmware upgrades down the line.
Below are a few sample photos captured with the lens, provided by TTArtisan.
The TTArtisan 35mm f/1.8 autofocus lens is available initially only for Fujifilm X-mount, with the promise of Sony E-mount and Nikon Z-mount coming “shortly.” It can be purchased from Amazon or Pergear for $149.
