Former NC State Head Coach Sidney Lowe has been hired as an Assistant Coach for the Detroit Pistons. J.B. Bickerstaff, who was the Head Coach for the Cavaliers from 2000-2024, knew what he was getting hiring Lowe, who served as an Assistant Coach with him in Cleveland from 2021-2024.

This marks the 3rd time that Lowe has served as an Assistant Coach in Detroit.
Lowe has had a long career as a Coach in the NBA. Prior to taking the job as the Wolfpack’s Head Coach in 2006 (2006-2011), Lowe was a Head Coach in the NBA 2 times: Minnesota (19992-1994) and Vancouver/Memphis (2000-2003). He also was an Assistant Coach at Minnesota (1991-1993, 1999-2000, 2004-2005), Cleveland (1994-1999) and Detroit (2005-2006).
After his tenure at NC State ended, Lowe has served as an Assistant Coach at Utah (2011-2014), Minnesota (2014-2016), Washington (2016-2018), Detroit (2018-2021) and Cleveland (2021-2024).
Lowe was famously part of NC State’s 1983 National Championship team. He was named 2nd Team All-ACC in 1981, and 1st Team All-ACC in 1983. Lowe’s #35 is honored in the rafters of PNC Arena. He ranks 2nd in NC State history in Assists (762) and Assist/Turnover Ratio (3.35), and 3rd in Steals (220).
