Twitter is less ‘safe’ under Elon Musk, says former senior company executive

It has been just over a month since Elon Musk officially acquired Twitter and it has been quite a ride for Twitter employees. A lot of senior executives were fired by Musk within days and some left after seeing how things were unfolding. One such employee who left was Yoel Roth, former head of trust and safety, at Twitter.
Since resigning from Twitter earlier this month, Roth has been rather quiet but has now given an interview and spoke about a few thing, including how safe Twitter is now. Roth was speaking at an event organised by the Knight Foundation and was asked whether he Twitter was safer under Musk and he replied, “I don’t”.
He was asked this because before resigning Roth had said that he expected Twitter to be safer under Musk. Roth said that he was initially optimistic as Musk had indicated that there would be a moderation council at Twitter. However, Roth said that, he realised that Musk would be making most of the decisions on his own.
“He would say things that were consistent with establishing a moderation council, that were consistent with not making capricious, unilateral decisions, and I was optimistic on the basis of that,” Roth said, before adding that his optimism ultimately faded.
Lack of senior employees a ‘worry’
The former senior executive at Twitter also said that he doesn’t think Twitter will end up being a “spectacular failure” under Musk. He also said that he is worried about the lack of senior and experienced employees at Twitter. “Are there enough people who understand the emergent malicious campaigns that happen on the service and understand it well enough to guide product strategy and policy direction,” he said. “I don’t think that there are enough people left at the company who can do that work.”
