There was chaos in Los Angeles this week as two takeovers happened in the same night, resulting in vehicles set ablaze and broken windows at a nearby dealership. LA’s ABC 7 reports the first of the two takeovers happened around midnight on September 3rd in South Los Angeles. Footage shows this takeover even included a vehicle fire, as crowds surrounding the area watched it burn.

The second takeover seemed to be a bit more chaotic, as ABC 7 reported:

The second takeover happened around 3:30 a.m. at Jefferson Boulevard and Figueroa Street in the University Park area.

The LAPD says that fireworks appeared to be involved in the takeover. Video from the scene shows people running away as a loud boom sounds off in the distance.

The footage also shows another car on fire, but police couldn’t say if it was set on fire on purpose or if it was accidental.

Authorities confirmed that somebody broke the windows of a nearby car dealership. Officers walked through the dealership but it did not appear that anything was stolen, and no cars were damaged inside.

Street takeovers are still a problem for California cities like Oakland and LA, and authorities don’t seem to be doing much to stop them. What has been done — things like sting operations and tougher laws — haven’t seemed to scare off those that are willing to participate in these often destructive sideshows. Until something can be done, it looks as though they’ll keep happening.
