US fast food chain Mr. Charlie’s to open first Australian store in Sydney

A popular US fast food chain which has been dubbed the vegan version of McDonald’s is opening its first store in Australia.

Mr. Charlie’s is officially opening a store in Redfern, Sydney, much to the delight of vegans and vegetarians across the city.

Channelling McDonald’s signature colours of red and yellow, Mr. Charlie’s has taken several other liberties from the fast food giant, such as its own version of a Happy Meal — the Frowny.

Other plant-based offerings include three different types of burgers, a chicken burger and chicken nuggets.

In a post on social media, the chain, which first opened in 2022, said the Redfern store would open in a few weeks.

It said the suburb in Sydney’s inner south was chosen so that the company could work towards helping Indigenous communities.

According to The Daily Telegraph, the store will be located on Cope St, next to Aboriginal Employment Strategy offices.

“We are proud to be teaming up with some incredible charities and brand partners who are creating opportunity for the Aboriginal people,” Mr. Charlie’s said.

“Mr. Charlie’s is more than a vegan burger joint, it’s an energy wave on a mission to restore a loving connection to serving this planet and her people through food and service.

“To all of the kind humans of Australia, we will see you soon.”

On its website, Mr. Charlie’s said its mission was to “redefine fast food” and to offer more sustainable choices.

The chain has taken social media by storm, with many TikTokers flocking to one of its three locations in the US to review the food.

In 2022, pop star Lizzo posted a video on TikTok of the About Damn Time singer trying Mr. Charlie’s. The clip quickly went viral, amassing over four million views.
