The sleeper variants of Vande Bharat Sleeper Express are being manufactured at Chennai’s Integral Coach Factory.
Vande Bharat Sleeper Special: After the success of the flagship vehicle on tracks, the Vande Bharat Express, the Indian Railways is planning to go ahead with its ‘100’day project as it finalizes the rollout of the all-new Vande Bharat sleeper, closing the Kashmir Railway Project that will link Jammu and Kashmir with the rest of the country, and continuing stock procurement for the bullet train project, reports timesofindia.indiatimes.com.
Indian Railways plans to introduce a sleeper variant of the Vande Bharat trains and complete important railway projects in Jammu and Kashmir within the first 100 days of the new government’s tenure, said Railway officials while talking to ET adding that the 100-day plan includes the finalization of the rolling stock procurement process for the bullet train’s trial run by August 2026.
Chennai’s Integral Coach Factory is preparing the sleeper variants of Vande Bharat Express for long-distance overnight journeys thus providing a comfortable and relaxed journey to the commuters, said the officials.
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw while addressing the Rising Bharat Summit on March 19 announced that the country’s first bullet train service will be launched by 2026 between Ahmedabad- Mumbai.
“India’s first bullet train will be ready in 2026, and will run in one section from Surat,” said Ashwini Vaishnaw during the event adding that the government is working on the 508-km-long Mumbai-Ahmedabad HSR (highspeed rail) project and it will cover Surat-Bilimora in Gujarat, and the full stretch is expected to be completed in 2028.
The train project will deploy Japan’s Shinkansen Technology at an estimated cost of Rs 1.10 lakh crore and the services for the project are expected to begin by 2026. Moreover, the project aims to create a high-frequency mass transportation system.
According to the proposal, the bullet train will pass through a sea tunnel to reach Mumbai from Thane and the work on the sea tunnel has begun, said the minister.
Announced in 2017, the first high-speed train corridor between Mumbai and Ahmedabad will see bullet train running at a speed of 320 kmph.
