Viltrox Teases Wild 30-300mm T4.0 Full-Frame Cine Lens

Chinese lens maker Viltrox has teased a very intriguing cinema lens for full-frame cameras, the Viltrox Luna 30-300mm T4.0 10x Zoom.

In a Weibo post, Viltrox’s roadmap lists a wide range of lenses, some of which PetaPixel has covered before. Lenses like the Viltrox AF 35mm f/1.4 Pro, AF 50mm f/1.4 Pro, and AF 85mm f/1.4 Pro are expected to arrive for Sony E-mount and Nikon Z-mount cameras sometime this year. New f/1.2 primes for APS-C cameras are also expected to arrive for the same mounts, plus Fujifilm X.

Viltrox is working on a 135mm f/1.8 LAB series lens, which will be a professional-oriented lens promising high-end performance. This is coming to E-mount and Z-mount cameras, although the E-mount version may arrive first.

However, today’s focus is on the Luna 30-300mm T4.0 10x full-frame zoom cinema lens. This is quite an intriguing optic. The lens looks large based on the images shared on Chinese social media.

It is so big that it includes a handle on top. It also sports aperture, focal length, and focus rings. Although it is difficult to know based on photos, given that it is a cine lens, it’s reasonable to expect some industry-standard gearing on the zoom and focus rings, ensuring flexibility within a professional video workflow.

Details are exceptionally sparse at this point, but Viltrox has shared that the lens will have a large 46.5-millimeter image projection circle, more than large enough for full-frame cameras and even some larger-format cine cameras. It also appears that the lens will be available in E, L, and PL mounts. However, one image shows the lens next to a Fujifilm X-H2 camera, so an X-mount version seems likely, too.

Even though this new cine zoom sports an unusual focal length range, Viltrox is no stranger to cine lenses. The company has “Epic” series anamorphic lenses in 35mm, 50mm, and 75mm focal lengths, plus other standard cine primes.

In all cases, Viltrox significantly undercuts the most expensive competition, and cinema lenses can cost a pretty penny. While pricing hasn’t been announced, it’s fair to expect the cine zoom lens won’t cost upwards of $45,000, like some other 30-300mm cinema zooms.
