Yusuf Dikec clinched silver medal in mixed team 10-metre pistol event at the Paris Olympics 2024.

New Delhi: Yusuf Dikec, the Turkish shooter who gathered whole world’s attention towards afer his silver medal victory at the ongoing Paris Olympics 2024, has joined social media platform X, previously known as Twitter which is currently owned by Elon Musk. Yusuf secured second place in the mixed team 10-metre pistol event, with Sevval Ilayda Tarhan.

Dikec’s fame, however, is more than heroics in Paris. A picture of his relaxed attitude and casual style during the event has made him quite popular in social media. Dikec’s distinctive style was evident as he sported standard glasses and a T-shirt, with his left hand casually tucked in his pocket. In contrast to his competitors, who frequently employ specialized gear such as headphones, special lenses, or hats, Mr. Dikec chose a minimalist approach.

After joining X, one of his first posts was directed towards Elon Musk. Sharing a photo from the Olympic event, which quickly became a popular meme, Dikec wrote, “Hi Elon, do you think future robots can win medals at the Olympics with their hands in their pockets? How about discussing this in Istanbul, the cultural capital that unites continents? @elonmusk.”

Musk replied, “Robots will hit the center of the bullseye every time.”

This exchange has become the talk of the town on social media.

Despite the internet frenzy, Mr. Dikec remains unfazed by his newfound viral status. His laid-back style has led to comparisons with cinematic icon James Bond, with social media users affectionately referring to him as “The name’s Dikec. Yusuf Dikec.” Amid the spotlight on Dikec, there are calls for equal recognition of his partner, Sevval Ilayda Tarhan, who also embraced a casual hand-in-pocket pose, though with the addition of headphones and a visor.
