Last April, the Neighborhood Goods store, the Dallas-based company founded by Matt Alexander and Mark Masinter, and notably present in New York and Austin, was planning to open a third store to Silver Lake, Los Angeles. Planned to replace Surplus Value Center, the former surplus specialist in military clothing and accessories at 3828 Sunset Boulevard, their project would not go ahead.
Under renovation for over two years, the 1,500-square-foot boutique at the junction of Sunset Boulevard and Hyperion Avenue will finally see the opening of the fifth store of the vintage and independent labels brand Wasteland in a few months’ time. A rooftop restaurant project is also due to be announced.
Founded in 1985 by Cheryl Cohen and Joey Swinney, Wasteland brand was launched in the city of Berkeley with the desire to create “a perfectly curated, style haven that offers a fashion collection of authenticity and self expression,” according to the founders.
” A store that inspired shoppers to create looks in a unique, one-of-a-kind way every time they stopped.”
With a current selection of designer pieces, from Rick Owens to Issey Miyake, Isabel Marant and from major luxury houses such as Chanel, Saint Laurent and Burberry, to more mainstream brands such as Levi’s, Wasteland has been inspiring stylists and creative of all kinds for 35 years. The house notably names Vivienne Westwood, Miuccia Prada and Marc Jacobs as clients of the house.
Already present in Los Angeles in the Hollywood, Studio City and Highland Park neighborhoods, the Wasteland brand also has a store in San Francisco’s Haight Ashbury district.
