Dinesh Karthik played a blinder of an innings with a 23-ball 53 against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium to power RCB to 196/8.
Mumbai: Rohit Sharma is known for his stump-mic banters with the opposition and the former Mumbai Indians captain was once again caught having a hilarious banter with Dinesh Karthik during their IPL 2024 match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Thursday at the Wankhede Stadium. The incident took place during the fag end of the RCB’s innings when Karthik was pummeling the Mumbai Indians bowlers to take his team close to 200-run mark.
With Faf du Plessis and Rajat Patidar back in the hut after their respective fifties, it was left to Karthik to give RCB a strong finish. And he did what the doctor ordered. The wicketkeeper-batter hit five fours and four sixes for a 23-ball 53 to power RCB to 196/8 in 20 overs.
But the moment came in when Rohit was heard saying ‘World Cup khelna hae, World Cup.’ For the unknown, the Indian team for the T20 World Cup 2024 will be selected based on IPL performances and Karthik has already made a strong case for himself with his finishing knocks in this IPL.

Notably, the BCCI is expected to name the 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 at the end of this month as the ICC deadline to submit teams is May 1. However, Karthik hinted at his potential IPL retirement after the match against Chennai Super Kings last month.
Asked it that was his final match at Chepauk, Karthik had repled, “That’s a great question. I genuinely wish it’s not, because a couple of matches of the Playoffs could be here. If I come back for that, that could be the last. Otherwise, I think it could be.”
As far as the Indian team is concerned, the likes of KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant are expected to be preferred over Karthik.
