Police initially thought the replica firearm could be a gel blaster, which was reportedly fired into the ground several times.

The man left the scene in a vehicle before police arrived. No injuries were reported.

Acting on information provided, a male ride-share driver was arrested in Mascot about 5.10pm.

The 28-year-old man was taken to Mascot Police Station where he was charged with possessing an unauthorised firearm. He was refused bail to appear before Downing Centre Local Court on Friday.

“A water pistol was seized and will be subject to further examination,” NSW Police said.

Police will allege the water pistol appeared to be a dark coloured pistol similar in appearance to a ‘Glock’ manufactured firearm
