Week 4 AFC West predictions

In Week 4, the Broncos aim to bounce back after a disastrous loss, the Raiders and Chargers square off in a pivotal divisional game and the Chiefs keep on rolling.

Here are Week 4 predictions:

Denver Broncos (0-3) at Chicago Bears (0-3): Despite surrendering the second-most points (70) since 1966 in a Week 3 loss to the Dolphins, the Broncos are 3.5-point favorites against the Bears, per OddsChecker.

The Bears are a dumpster fire. They haven’t won a game since October 24, 2022. This season, they’ve only scored 47 points, 27th in the NFL. Jason La Canfora of The Washington Post reported that team president Kevin Warren could clean house if the organization’s struggles continue.

While some Denver fans recently started a petition to fire defensive coordinator Vance Joseph, head coach Sean Payton said “no” coaches or players will lose their jobs after the embarrassing loss, per longtime Broncos reporter Mike Klis. He also promised his team would get its act together.

“To the fans, we’re going to work our tail off and get this ship straightened away,” he said Monday, via Klis. “That’s going to happen.”

PREDICTION: Broncos, 19-16

Kansas City Chiefs (2-1) at New York Jets (1-2): On a Wednesday episode of “New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce,” the Chiefs tight end said “he sure as hell enjoyed this weekend” since Taylor Swift attended a 41-10 victory over the Bears, and his team looks like a bona fide championship contender.

The Kansas City roster is among the NFL’s best since the team has scored 78 points while only allowing 40. Per OddsChecker, the Chiefs possess the second-best Super Bowl odds (+650) behind San Francisco.
Expect the Chiefs to dominate against the Jets, coming off consecutive losses to the Cowboys and Patriots. Some of New York’s struggles fall on third-year quarterback Zach Wilson, who’s logged a 26.7 QBR, well below the league average. ESPN’s Rich Cimini said the team “could be ready to implode” if Wilson isn’t benched on a Tuesday episode of his podcast.

PREDICTION: Chiefs, 31-13

Las Vegas Raiders (1-2) at Los Angeles Chargers (1-2): Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels might be on the hot seat after a disappointing start. He holds the best odds (+200) to be the first HC fired, via BetOnline. Speculation about his job security will grow with a loss to the Chargers.

Las Vegas is an underdog against Los Angeles, holding a 25.2 percent chance to win, per ESPN Analytics. Furthermore, Raiders QB Jimmy Garoppolo is in concussion protocol. If he doesn’t play, the hapless Raiders offense — tied for 29th in points scored (45) — will keep floundering.

Even though Chargers wide receiver Mike Williams recently suffered a season-ending ACL tear, fellow wideout Keenan Allen will step up since he’s third in the NFL in receiving yards (402). Plus, the Raiders defense has allowed 25.7 points per game, 24th in the NFL.

PREDICTION: Chargers, 31-21
