Westpac outage Monday: Millions of customers impacted as online and mobile banking services offline

Australian bank Westpac is experiencing an outage on Monday afternoon, leaving many without access to their internet banking.

“We’re aware that customers are experiencing issues accessing online and mobile banking,” the bank said on X (formerly Twitter).

“Our teams are working to fix the issue. We’re sorry for the inconvenience and will continue to share updates here.”

Reports of issues with internet banking also spiked on Down Detector, with 6000 reports at 1.10pm on Monday.

Subsidiaries of Westpac including St. George Bank, Bank of Melbourne and Bank SA also reported outages on Monday.

Australians banking with Westpac took to social media to share their frustration over the outage.

“What is going on at Westpac,” one person asked.

“Why is the app and online banking not working? I need to do a transfer and pay bills,” another added.

“OK it’s been two hours now, this is getting a little bit outrageous,” a third said.

The outage comes just days after Westpac scrapped its cardless cash feature at its ATMs across Australia.

“You can still make cash withdrawals using your physical card at ATMs, in branch, stores that accept cash out and Bank@Post,” Westpac told customers last week.

“Alternatively, you can use your digital card to perform transactions or send and receive money in real time using online banking.”

A Westpac spokesperson told 7NEWS.com.au the move had been made amid a transition towards more widespread digital banking.
