‘What hasn’t happened till now’
In a chilling warning to Iran, Chief of the General Staff of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Lieutenant General ‘Herzi’ Halevi, said Israel will use a different level of force against Iran if it “makes the mistake” of launching another strike against the country.
The Israeli military chief warned that Israel will use advanced weaponry against Iran, which it has not used till now, in wake of another attack by Tehran.
Israel attacks Iran
Earlier this month, in its first open strike against Iran, Israel launched a series of pre-dawn airstrikes on Iran in retaliation for the barrage of missile strikes the Islamic Republic had fired on the Jewish nation on October 1. The ‘precision strikes’ on Iranian military targets, was the first time Israeli military has openly attacked Iran.
Following the attack, dubbed ‘Operation: Days of Repentance’, Israel said it had deployed 100 fighter jets which entered Iranian airspace and took out key military targets.
US warns Iran
Amidst the threat of a full-blown war in the middle-east, the United States, a key ally of Israel, warned Iran not to launch a retaliatory strike in response to the October 26 attacks as that will take the escalation to another level.
“Iran should not make the mistake of responding to Israel’s attacks. This will lead to an sharp increase in tensions between the two countries,” US Defense Secretary Lloyd J Austin had said.
India’s stance on Iran-Israel conflict
Meanwhile, India, which has good diplomatic ties with both Israel and Iran, has maintained its neutral stand on the raging conflict in the middle-east, and called for de-escalation and peace.
In a statement issued following Israel October 26 attack on Iran, India Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) reiterated New Delhi’s call for peace in the middle-east, stating that no party will benefit from the hostilities.
India urged both Israel and Iran to exercise restraint and return to the path of dialogue and diplomacy to resolve the ongoing conflict, noting that the war has taken a heavy toll on civilians and toppled the region’s economy.
