Woolworths has launched a trial of its new scan-as-you-go technology in-store, marking the first digital supermarket trolley.
The Scan&Go Trolley trial, running at Woolworths Windsor in Sydney’s northwest, allows customers to track their trolley total while they shop as well as saving them time at the check-out.
The Scan&Go Trolley features a tablet-style device customers through which customers can scan their Everyday Rewards card.

“Our customers are looking for us to deliver both value and convenience,” Woolworths Group’s Faye IIhan said.
“Scan&Go Trolley is a market-leading innovation that will help them both save time and balance the budget on their supermarket shop.
“Pending feedback from our customers, we hope to introduce Scan&Go Trolley in more of our supermarkets nationwide.”
The new technology will be trialled at nine additional stores across Sydney in the coming weeks.
While customers cannot currently pay their trolley bill using the Scan&Go Trolley, Woolworths hopes to introduce this alongside other additional features in the future.
The original Scan&Go app was first introduced in 2018 and allows customers to scan items with their phone while shopping in-store and pay in the app before tapping off at a dedicated kiosk.
Scan&Go is currently live in over 74 Woolworths supermarkets.
The introduction of the new technology will not impact the number of staff in-store, Woolworths said.
“Scan&Go Trolley will be offered to customers as a new way to complete their shop and there will be no change to the existing methods, including the option to be served by a team member at an assisted checkout, using the self-service check out, pick up via ‘direct to boot,’ or online delivery,” a spokesperson for the grocery giant said.
