Woolworths shopper sparks debate over major sugar aisle change: ‘It’s wrong’

A Woolworths customer has sparked an intense social media debate after spotting a “weird” detail at her local store.

The Queensland shopper spoke out after noticing that the sugar range had been moved from the baking aisle to the cordial section.

She noted that it was the first time she’d ever seen the popular everyday buy not stored near cake mixes and flour, telling Woolies that it was “wrong” to move it.

The video prompted a huge reaction from thousands of social media users, with many claiming that sugar is only ever stored in the coffee aisle.

The assertion prompted the shopper to head to another Woolworths store and show that sugar was stored in the baking aisle.

“To people who thought I was crazy yesterday, this is my local Woolworths,” she said.

“Look! Sugar, sugar! Cake mix! Oh look at that, baking aisle – flour, sugar.

“It’s been a very divisive subject. So weird.”

“All the Woolies near me, it’s in baking aisle, and I’ve got five Woolies within 10 minutes,” one said.

Another added: “Every supermarket within 30 minutes of my house the sugar is in the baking aisle. That’s the obvious place.”

A third wrote: “I’ve lived in Adelaide, Melbourne, Shepparton and Horsham. I’ve literally NEVER seen sugar in the coffee aisle, it’s always with baking?”

One more added: “I’ve always found sugar in the baking section. Never ever seen it with coffee.”

But others held firm that the popular buy was usually sold in the coffee section.

“I just used my Woolies app for my local store. Sugar is in aisle four also coffee, baking stuff in aisle seven,” one said.

A third noted: “All the Woollies I’ve ever been to, the sugar is in the coffee aisle.”

It’s believed the store where the customer visited is currently undergoing renovations, which is why the sugar range had been moved to the cordial section.
