So what exactly is this ‘look between keyboard letters’ viral trend?
According to the trend, the user is supposed to look between two particular letters on their keyboard or keypad leading upto something. And when a trend catches on, it rains memes all over social media. While some users are just hopping on the bandwagon with tehir versions, big names like Swiggy, Zomatao and even the Delhi Police have impressed netizens with hilarious takes.
HOW AND WHEN DID ‘ LOOK BETWEEN X AND Y ON YOUR KEYBOARD TREND BEGIN?
Just like every animated or fictional character has an origin story, these internet trends too have a time and place when they emerged. This ‘look between…’ trend is not something that just started yesterday, it first surfaced years ago.
This trend has an Anime connection. Reportedly, it first appeared on a platform named 4Chan in May 2021. This platform was for people where they shared images, post,, comments anonymously. The meme was related to a character from the Japanese anime series ‘K-On’. Its caption read, “Look between T and O on your’e key bored (misspelt on purpose).”
The letters came out as Y, U and I, spelt ‘Yui’, a character from the series. The popular anime series focuses on girls forming a band through their high school’s music club.
Then one of the X (formerly Twitter) used shared the familiar posts related to ‘K-On!’ and ‘My Hero Academia in April 2024. The format of the original 4Chan post that started this trend, but eventually, people hopped on to their own versions and leashed out their own creativity there.
