Audi R8: Audi R8’s last hurrah: Teaser promises ‘something special’ on September 12

Audi has teased a special edition R8 that will be unveiled on September 12. The German automaker has been gradually phasing out the R8, which has been in production since 2006, and this new model is likely to be a final farewell to the iconic supercar.
Posting a few images on its Instagram handle, the carmaker said that this will be the R8’s ‘Last Lap’ and ‘something special’ has been planned to celebrate the sports car’s history.
While the images about the teased edition are scarce, the images show an Audi R8 performance wrapped in red-black-white livery featuring the ‘Audi Sport’ badging on the spoiler. In terms of design, there are no visible changes on the V10-powered beast hence, we can expect it will be unveiled with some cosmetic changes to give it a proper send-off.

Under the hood, the current version of the R8 gets a 5.2-liter V10 engine that produces up to 612 hp, and it can accelerate from 0 to 100 in less than 4 seconds.
The end of the R8 is a sign of the times, as more and more automakers are shifting their focus to electric vehicles. However, there are rumours that the carmaker will bring back the R8 in an all-electric avatar in the future, albeit with a completely changed design.
We’ll have to wait for 12 September to know what is the ‘special’ something the manufacturer has planned to bid adieu to this iconic car. However, we can expect it to feature exclusive paint schemes, interior finishes, and special badges to celebrate the history of the R8. Mechanically, it is likely to remain the same.
