Chloe Malle, Co-Host of The Run-Through with Vogue, on Making It as a Podcaster!

Maybe you’ve heard of The Run-Through with Vogue podcast? It’s the show for fashion fanatics—and frequently ranks at the top of the charts internationally. That’s no surprise: The lively chatter between co-hosts Chioma Nnadi (Head of Editorial Content at British Vogue) and Chloe Malle (Editor of Vogue.com)—and, of course, the interviews with fashion-world luminaries, celebrities (including Vogue cover star Sienna Miller), and hot-takes on trends and big pop culture moments—have made The Run-Through a can’t-miss listen.

Chloe Malle recently sat down with us to chat about everything from finding your podcasting niche to becoming a pillar of the new-media world. Here are some highlights:

Do not underestimate how much work it is!

“Putting together a weekly podcast is no small feat—we have a spectacular full-time producer and two part-time producers who help us.”

“I’ve talked to a few people who’ve said: ‘Oh, I’ve thought of starting a podcast,’ and I’ve responded: ‘You do not know what this is—it is booking talent, prepping interviews, editing interviews, researching the interviews ahead of time.’ It’s a lot of work!”

Specificity is best

“There are plenty of wide-ranging pop culture podcasts or general chat podcasts—but the successful podcasts do something very few others do.”

“Make your podcast specific, and something people can search for in the podcast app. Make it about something you really know and shine at.”

“If you are a wonderful gardener and want to do a podcast about gardening, that’s better than doing a podcast about life outdoors. Being clear and precise in what you are producing and bringing to the table is invaluable.”

It has to be clear you’re having fun

“I’ve gotten a lot of feedback from listeners during episodes where I’m clearly enjoying either the guests or our visiting editors. My friend Taylor Antrim—the Executive Editor of Vogue—often joins the podcast, and you can just feel the difference when it’s someone we (Chioma and I) are friends with and are excited to be in the podcast studio with.”

In short

“Anticipate how much work it is, and be as specific and clear as you can about what you’re bringing to the podcasting landscape, as it is already very saturated. Make sure you’re having a good time and excited to be there, because the listeners will absolutely understand that!”
