Claudie Pierlot has entered the circular fashion market. The French affordable luxury label founded in 1984 by the eponymous designer, and now owned by the SMCP group alongside Maje, Sandro and Fursac, has recently launched a ready-to-wear resale service.

Claudie Pierlot has now unveiled a circular fashion line, simply called Claudie Seconde Main (second hand), featuring a selection of pre-owned clothes. The label has followed in the footsteps of sister brand Sandro, just over a year after another SMCP label, Maje, entered the second-hand fashion market in winter 2022.

The line was launched on the label’s e-shop on February 12, and already includes some 300 products. Claudie Pierlot’s goal is to extend its chic womenswear wardrobe’s life cycle in an environmentally friendly fashion, aware that the fashion industry is a major contributor to global pollution.

The Claudie Seconde Main range includes long patterned dresses, mauve cardigans with buttons, aqua green jackets and matching trousers, as well as accessories like leather handbags and small leather goods, all offered for sale by the label’s customers.

Reconditioned items for resale

Claudie Pierlot consumers have the opportunity of reselling items from previous collections, by sending them back free of charge to the label, and receiving in exchange coupons valid on the Claudie Pierlot e-shop, which can be redeemed to buy both new and second-hand items. ​The clothes and accessories sent to Claudie Pierlot – in conditions ranging from ‘good’ to ‘very good’ to ‘new with sales label’ – then undergo a “stringent, reliable reconditioning process,” before being featured on the second-hand site.

“They say that love reinvents itself each day. Our way of consuming must also be reinvented,” said Claudie Pierlot in a press release announcing the launch. The label’s resale initiative, part of its ‘Claudie Cares’ CSR strategy, has been developed in collaboration with Faume, a Parisian start-up that in recent years has developed circularity initiatives specific for high-end and affordable luxury brands. Among its clients, French labels like Ba&sh, horse-riding apparel brand Dada Sport, and Flair, renowned for its glamorous bodysuits.
