Dunn-Edwards Paints will move into some Kelly Moore Bay Area stores

SAN JOSE — Dunn-Edwards, a big paint retailer, will greatly widen its footprint in Northern California by adding 17 stores in the region, a welcome expansion poised to fill several former Kelly Moore Paints sites.

The 17 paint retailing locations include 10 new stores in the Bay Area and some stores near the Bay Area, Dunn-Edwards Paints stated.

The expansion will increase the number of Dunn-Edwards Paints sites in Northern California by more than 50%.

The Dunn-Edwards move arrives in the wake of the abrupt shutdown of Kelly Moore Paints in January 2024, an implosion that terminated the retail business of Kelly Moore, which was founded in San Carlos in 1946.

“The sudden closure of Kelly Moore devastated hundreds of loyal employees and impacted painting professionals across the region,” said Monte Lewis, chief operating officer with Dunn-Edwards Corp.

Here are the 10 Bay Area locations where Dunn-Edwards will open:

— San Jose, 2910 Alum Rock Avenue.

— Oakland, 4156 Telegraph Avenue.

— Cupertino, 1505 South De Anza Boulevard.

— Fremont, 4640 Auto Mall Parkway.

— San Ramon, 2050 San Ramon Valley Boulevard.

— Brentwood, 2480 Sand Creek Road.

— Albany, 969 San Pablo Avenue.

— Gilroy, 8565 Monterey Street.

— Redwood City, 1391 Woodside Road.

— San Francisco, 701 Bayshore Boulevard.

In addition, Dunn-Edwards is planning to open paint stores at former Kelly Moore retail locations in Santa Cruz and the Monterey County city of Seaside.

“The new stores will employ approximately 125 people, almost exclusively former Kelly Moore employees, across the 17 new locations,” Dunn-Edwards stated.

Precise opening dates weren’t immediately available, although Dunn-Edwards said the stores would “soon” launch operations.

“By moving quickly and decisively, we’re hopeful our expansion will provide relief for those who have been affected, building trust with new and existing employees and customers for years to come,” Lewis said.
