Gold Coast man charged with dangerous driving after allegedly ramming ute in road-rage attack

A Gold Coast driver has been accused of brake-checking another car, before ramming it and pulling a knife on the occupants in an alleged road-rage attack.

The 23-year-old man was driving a Toyota Corolla on Oxley Dr in Hollywell on Saturday when he allegedly began targeting three people in a Mazda BT-50 ute.

“The initial engagement is still a little bit unclear,” Acting Superintendent Tim Mowle said.

“But at some point, a Toyota Corolla brake-checked, or cut off … a Mazda BT50, causing that vehicle to suddenly brake as well.”

Both cars stopped on the road and the three men in the Mazda got out.

The Corolla driver allegedly “did a u-turn and deliberately” drove into the Mazda, Mowle said.

He then allegedly pulled a “penknife” on the trio and “moved towards” them, “at which point they fled the scene”, the superintendent said.

No one was injured in the altercation.

The Corolla driver, who is from Southport, was arrested that night in Springwood.

He was charged with dangerous driving, going armed so as to cause fear, unlicensed driving and endangering the safe use of a vehicle by throwing an object.

He was refused police bail and did not appear as his charges were mentioned in Southport Magistrates Court on Monday.
