RAIPUR: Amidst the ongoing controversy surrounding the Mahadev book online betting app during the assembly elections, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel launched a scathing attack on Monday, accusing central agencies ED and IT of actively participating in the BJP’s election campaign. He also accused the BJPof having ties with the gambling platform and questioned why no action was being taken against them.Baghel’s comments were in response to a purported video by Shubham Soni, claiming to be the owner of the Mahadev App, which linked the chief minister to the scandal.
“The Enforcement Directorate and Income Tax agencies are openly supporting the BJP in the election, which suggests that they admit to losing the elections. It’s easy to make allegations against me, and if that’s the case, I also accuse the BJP and ED of trying to protect the Mahadev Book online betting app. Why hasn’t Union Home Minister Amit Shah taken any action against them? Baghel mentioned that the person arrested by the ED two days ago was allegedly associated with a BJP leader, and the seized vehicle also belonged to a BJP leader. “This implies that the arrested accused, the seized vehicle, and the arresting agency all have ties to the BJP,” he said.
“Lakhs of fake bank accounts were opened in national private banks for online betting money transactions. The central government should identify these accounts, seize the money, and close them down. Only then can they effectively control online betting platforms. We have already closed 3,000-4,000 bank accounts and made 450 arrests,” Baghel stated.
Baghel also noted that previously, Saurabh Chandrakar and Ravi Uppal were considered key players in the Mahadev app case, and now a new name, Shubham Soni, has emerged, who first sent an email and then a video.
“Even children in Chhattisgarh know who the main players behind the Mahadev app are, so how was the ED unaware? The ED stated in a press release that Soni was one of the officials in the Mahadev app, but a purported video from Soni claims that he’s the owner.”
“I’ve never seen an owner who spends 200 crores for an employee’s wedding,” the CM remarked.
“The purported video shows the man pausing it many times, and we don’t know what kind of editing has been done with malicious intent. Such videos, audios, and scripts will keep surfacing until November 17, the polling day. Why aren’t they investigating and arresting these individuals? Why is the BJP collaborating with the ED to protect the Mahadev app accused? They believe that releasing such videos will benefit them politically,” Baghel said.
“They claim the app is banned, but investigations into the Mahadev app case have been ongoing for two years, and they didn’t realize that the app they claim to have banned is not even available on Indian servers and the Play Store. These apps actually send APK files to conduct their betting business, and an FIR should be filed against them, followed by the closure of all groups they use for their operations. They use WhatsApp and Telegram for their functioning. The BJP has no intention of imposing a ban,” the CM added.
He stated that the Chhattisgarh government has taken action against the Mahadev App accused and issued a lookout circular. Now, it is the central government’s responsibility to apprehend them and shut down the app. Baghel emphasized that unless online betting is banned, nothing substantial can be done against them, and he believes the BJP will win fewer seats compared to the last election, where they secured 15 seats.
Raipur police have also released a statement that during the investigations going on against Mahadev app, they have corresponded the Google to remove Mahadev Book app from the playstore, following which, the app was removed.

There are 36 FIRs registered in relation with the case, and many panel operators were nabbed during the raids conducted in Chhattisgarh, Katni, Anuppur, Visakhapatnam, Odisha, Delhi, Goa and Maharashtra. Police have arrested 235 accused in the case with seizure of many mobile phones, laptops, freezing more than 500 bank accounts.
