How to check the purity of the gold jewellery you buy using an app

It’s the festive season. The wedding season too is almost round the corner. Time to buy gold for many of us. However, one often wonders if the jewellery that we have purchased is pure or not. To help gold buyers, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has an app called the ‘BIS Care App’. The ‘BIS Care’ app can help track all ISI and hallmark-certified gold and silver jewellery. The app allows customers to verify the purity of hallmarked gold jewellery in real time. The app is available for both Android users as well as Apple iPhone users
“Are you concerned about the authenticity of #gold jewellery you are buying? Check it using the ‘Verify #HUID feature’ on the BIS Care App.
Download on Google Play and App Store: https://onelink.to/mshz7g,” reads a post on X, formerly Twitter, from Bureau of Indian Standards.

How to download ‘BIS Care’ app
Android and iPhone users can download the app from their respective app stores, Google Play Store and Apple App Store. The app has more than 4 star rating on both the app stores. As per the BIS website FAQs, hallmarking of gold jewellery is permitted in six categories: 14K, 18K, 20K, 22K, 23K and 24K.
“A handy tool empowering consumers to verify authenticity of an ISI mark, Hallmark and CRS Registration marks on any item or a product. Just enter the licence number/HUID number/Registration number appearing on the product or item and get all the relevant details like name & address of manufacturer, validity of licence or registration, varieties covered in the scope of licence or registration, Brands included and current status of the licence or registration, purity of jewellery article, etc…,” says the app’s description on Google Play Store.
How to use ‘BIS Care’ app
The BIS Care App allows users to check and know about the quality of the ISI and hallmark quality-certified products. Users will need to register on the app to get started. Once done:
* Check the authenticity of the Product with mark by using ‘Verify Licence Details’
* Check the authenticity of Hallmarked Jewellery item with HUID number by using ‘Verify HUID’. HUID here stands for Hallmark Unique Identification number. Do note that mentioning of six-digit HUID code is not mandatory on the bill, so you may have to check this from the store you purchase.
* Select ‘Know your Standards’ for information on any Indian standard, Licenses against it and laboratories for this product.
